eM is a consultancy service with a difference. eM looks to collaborate with you to help you leverage your impact. But when we say collaborate, we mean it. eM will not simply labour for you, or even co-labour with you. eM looks to collaborate in order to create something new, and produce outputs that are more successful than either of us could have achieved alone. We treat our consultation partnerships as genuine relationships that are centered around high expectations, and look forward to working together to add tangible value to your work.

EMILY AKERS

eM was founded by Emily Akers after years of experience of working in government, nongovernmental organisations and development start ups.

eM has supported clients as diverse as Delivery Associates; DFID and Cambridge Education's flagship education programme in Uganda, the UN Education Commission; shaping systems and scaling strategies for Elevate Education; and developing systems mapping and pilot strategy with SPARK Microgrants in Rwanda, amongst others. eM has also worked directly in government providing technical assistance to the delivery of multi-sector policies, including at the Office of the Prime Minister, Uganda and the Ethiopian Government's Education Ministry Delivery Unit.

Previously, Emily worked as the founding Country Director of STIR Education in Uganda, one of the world’s fastest growing international NGOs, that impacts over one million children through its system-strengthening partnerships with the Governments of Uganda and India that supports almost 30,000 teachers. Emily set up STIR Education in Uganda from scratch, seeing it through to government-led implementation at near-national scale within just three years.

Emily has also led on interventions in multiple sectors (from health start ups to education NGOs) and geographies, including East Africa, UK, India, Brazil, New Zealand and the United States. This has exposed Emily to skills and experience of building intervention strategies and programmes – from design through implementation and innovation; forging key partnerships with Government, Unions, and other system players to take interventions to scale; securing and managing large-scale funding; with a specialism in entrepreneurial start ups.

Emily holds an International Development Masters from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (specialism in conflict) and a BA in Journalism and Media from Cardiff University, UK.

eM works with YOU first as people. eM wants to truly collaborate with you, your institution (whether a non- or inter-governmental organisation; government, private sector or anything in between) and your vision to improve the efficiency of your work, scale, and accelerate your system impact.

eM enters our collaborative work with clients through an enmeshed set of values that direct every aspect of our approach:

UNDERSTANDING

HIGH

EXPECTATIONS

HUMILITY

Centered on a concrete learning practices, eM seeks to create, acquire and transfer knowledge in an environment that fosters open discussion, systematic tolerance and quick adaptation in an unpredictable world.

eM seeks to understand you and the individual differences that make up your strong organisational whole. By adopting a human-centred approach, that values people and the benefit of meaningful work relationships, we will continuously work in a socially responsible way.

We take accountability for our work, seeking to deliver the highest quality and timely support to our collaborators. eM believes that by setting clear – and high – expectations, together we can establish a path for success.

eM believes in the power of doing things differently. We believe in pioneering meaningfully by embracing but also driving forward change. If we can do this with a little weirdness and a passion for fun, all the better.

PIONEERING
