why work with eM?

With experience in government technical assistance and engagement; global education innovations; programme design & implementation; and strategic embedding of interventions into systems at scale - eM believes they have the technical expertise to support you in realising positive change for young people. Consultancy experience includes technical assistance to the Office of the Prime Minister, Uganda; the Ethiopian Government's Education Ministry Delivery Unit; as a Delivery Leader with Delivery Associates; supporting global clients including DFID, Cambridge Education and the UN Education Commission; shaping systems and scaling strategies for Elevate Education; and developing systems mapping and pilot strategy with SPARK Microgrants in Rwanda, amongst others.

Whoever you are – private organisations, governments, NGOs, foundations or bi- and multilateral organisations – eM would like to collaborate with you to build on your DNA and strengthen your work. eM does this in three key areas:

Intervention

design

Through an approach to design that is rigorous (and where we can, based on real evidence), human-centred and engaged through positive challenge, eM believes we can help strengthen the way you reach and work with your beneficiaries. Together, we can catalyse new paths to success by building stronger models, forging mutually-engaged partnerships, and stimulating better processes to multiply your impact.

eM will provide consultancy services that can re-shape your strategic direction, build innovative content and interventions, and focus your thinking in areas such as:

  • How can I integrate experimentation, beneficiary feedback and iterative design into my approach instead of having to have “big design up front”?

  • How can we use validated learning and adapt our intervention design incrementally, learning as we implement instead of waiting for proof of concept?

  • How can we scale our intervention meaningfully and in a way that truly builds towards sustained value?

  • How can we create an effective strategic vision – and also actually make it happen

  • How can we ensure that distinct elements of our intervention – from design, to implementation and evaluation – are no longer distinct but working as one whole?

  • How can we ensure our intervention is beneficiary-driven?

  • How can we ensure our organisation has a world-class internal structure – with a culture, values and team to match the expert delivery we pride ourselves on?

System

embedding

You believe in your intervention. So how can we ensure it is embedded into systems – from aligning with and influencing policy-making – to reach even more people? Not only does eM believe that existing solutions - including your vision - have the potential to be embedded into systems to influence change at scale; we believe it is possible to catalyse new paths to change that can multiply your impact. Together, we will support you to build better processes and content, advise on strategy and forge partnerships that will disrupt the narrative of systems change.

Transformative innovations combine multiple elements in a new way: not just focusing on structures and processes, but involving changes in approach, power relations, and visioning. A combination of changed mindset, behaviour and structures can culminate in true systems change - it is, as Peter Senge puts it, a discipline for seeing wholes, interrelationships and patterns of change.

With experience directly in government, and supporting organisational strategy to forge government partnerships, eM can help you focus your attention in key systems areas, such as:

  • How do we design a strategy that engages government in our work?

  • How can I effectively embed our successful approach into the system?

  • How can I take our collaboration with the government to the next level, and build true ownership?

  • How can we establish working prototypes of a disrupted system?

  • How can we design and trial platforms to trigger systematic innovation?

  • How do I not just see the system implementing, but embedding the intervention at scale?

  • How do we effectively align with – but beyond that, influence and shape – policy?

  • How do we work with systems in a way that adds sustained value?

  • Government is one system – what are the others, and how can we effectively engage with them?

  • How can we communicate the impact of our intervention in an effective way, creating new evidence?

  • How do we create and build frames for change – content for policy and advocacy work?

Graphic

recording

eM believes in generating, capturing and delivering information and communication in a creative way. eM is fully certified in graphic recording from the leading experts Graphic Change. We can help you and your organisation to strategise and communicate in the most effective way.

Tired of spending valuable time and resources having important – and often very detailed and complex – conversations, only to produce dense written documentation that doesn’t capture the exciting ideas that came out? eM can help you get the impact out of your planning, strategy or review meetings you are hoping for, by using creative content capture – known as graphic recording – to capture your discussion live as it happens. Your time is valuable. Let eM help you maximise it, and access the multiple benefits of graphic recording:

  • Push you and your team to think more creatively

  • Produce content and communications that are easier to remember and understand

  • Increase your team’s engagement in meetings and brainstorms

  • Produce content that can be shared with diverse audiences and stakeholders – live as it happens

This technique has been used for purposes as diverse as mapping customer journeys for businesses; unpicking a critical topic for brainstorm; creating a new organisation strategy; to creating new communication content. If you want to capture it, eM can help you capture it creatively.
